Speed Boards

The CDD Board has stated that they would like to use speed boards as a measure to deter speeding in the community. The supervisors asked the district manager to measure the speeds of cars in three locations in the community for 3 days (Thu, Fri, Sat) without the use of speed boards and then to put in place a mobile speed board in each of the three locations for the same three days of the week (1 location per day) to analyze if the boards were effective in reducing speeding.

The district manager reported that it would cost more than the permitted dollar amount to have the board. No specifics were provided to the supervisors.

What are the board member's opinions on how they would like to proceed?

The new manager coming in had some excellent suggestions and lots of experience in this arena. I would like to see the issue addressed as our first order of business when he comes on board and proceed from there. In the interim, this topic was also supposed to be addressed in the letters sent out to each resident in hopes to bring some awareness to the problem at hand.

Joyce, your comments about letters that were supposed to be sent out are on point.

You are correct Joyce. I would like to see the new manager come and work with the current security committee to make this plan a reality.

Also, this is a serious time sensitive topic. Our security committee has tried for over a year to implement real practical solutions and with our experience new manager, we should not idle away the safety of our community. Some studies are needed but, the solutions should be gear towards stopping speeders on every street in CLI, not just the main streets. The debate is about, can we legally deploy speed devices that can check speeds and take pictures of license plates and enforce fines to the violators.

This is the exact information that the new manager is able to provide Amal. I definitely think it should be our first agenda item once he arrives! And I agree with your suggestion of every street not just the main loop!

I am using my cellphone, so I apologize for not seeing the responses right away. Do you thinks the new manager can come to our next week security mtg as a guest as a prelue to taking the reigns and briefing the CDD?

Cyril, do you know the answer to this question? I know the new Management company doesn't start for 60 days from the notification date which was March 18th. I also don't know if the Management company is able to attend subcommittee meetings or if that needs to be a Board member attending those meetings?
